The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI generates 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, making it the high-performance variant of the Jetta sedan. There are two gearbox options available: a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The Jetta GLI impressed us on our first test drive since it was a lot of fun to operate. The gearbox shifts swiftly and smoothly, and the turbocharged engine offers more than enough power. The car’s handling is sharp and immediate, with excellent steering feel and road input.
The GLI’s sport-tuned suspension makes for a stiff ride but keeps it planted on the road through turns with little to no body roll. There is enough stopping force provided by the brakes, which are powerful and responsive.
The inside of the Jetta GLI is well-designed and roomy, with supportive seats and many conveniences. An 8-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a six-speaker audio system are all included in the standard infotainment system. Additional options, such as a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, and premium audio system, are available on higher model levels.
The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is an excellent choice for a dynamic and entertaining family car. It’s loaded with amenities, has a robust engine, and handles well. Although the GLI’s firm suspension isn’t for everyone, it’s a fantastic choice for drivers who are passionate about the sport and need a vehicle that can keep up with them.
